From the moment I met with Cody about doing a maternity and newborn session I felt super comfortable with him and knew that he was going to be the one for me.

Creating memories and deepening relationships, that’s what a family session is all about. These moments don’t typically just happen when I show up with my camera. They are cultivated and curated specifically for each family to ensure your photos are genuine and authentic.

How does this work?

These family sessions are unlike anything else out there. My clients want to create beautiful artwork of their families and document this moment in time to cherish forever. We are working together closely for several weeks leading up to your session to determine the style or vibe of your session, the theme or activity, as well as possible location ideas, wardrobe options, and even down to detailed specifics of your vision mixed with my creative eye.

My goal is to help you create memories of your family that will last a lifetime and beyond through the legacy of your family. Anyone can take your photograph, but I want to create memories and deepen relationships for you.

The Process

  • When you book a session there will be a 4 week buffer between time of signing up and the session itself. This is to give us time to collaborate together and figure out the best vibe, outfits, location, and activity for your session. As soon as you’ve signed the contract, I’ll be reaching out to set up a chat with you to dive into all of the details specific to your family.

  • Once I’ve touched base with you after you’ve signed the contract we’ll have a planning meeting. During this meeting we will discuss your vision for the session, any must have shots, what your expectations are, what my expectations are, and a bunch of other little details.

  • As the session date approaches you’ll be getting little tips to help make the best of the family session. Things like how to have a happy husband for photos, How to have happy kids for the session, Don’t stress the little things, and more.

Then at the session we’ll have so much fun capturing real and genuine moments on camera for you to cherish for a lifetime!

  • Once the session is over we’ll set up a quick meeting about 2-3 weeks after the session for you to come by the studio to see the images for the first time and purchase any product that you have had your eye on for your home. You’ll get a chance to look at family books, wall art galleria’s, as well as other miscellaneous products, like ornaments, cards, etc.

Family FAQs

When is the best time to do a family session

There are 2 ways to answer this question and honestly there is no right or wrong answer for either answer.

First, families should have at least one portrait session together each year to document their growing family and see the growth over the years. New families with little kiddos might consider multiple sessions a year since the kids grow so much in the early years.

Second, depending on your family’s lifestyle will greatly dictate when the best time of the year for a session would be. It will also rely on what type of session you want to do. Regardless of the season, we’ll work together and plan everything out for the perfect family photo session.

What about locations?

Once we start chatting about your family, and what they are like, we can get a good idea for where the session can be. For new families, that might be in your home, or for families with older kids, that might be the basketball court. No location is too far fetched or weird for your family session. It’s my job to capture your family in it’s natural element. That’s when the pictures truly shine!

Do we need to all wear white shirts and blue jeans?

Let’s leave the matching outfits at the store and go with a wardrobe that is individualized for each person. I like to keep clothing simple, not too many patterns or bright colors. Neutral tones or pastels are always best for photos. Mom can wear a flattering dress while dad wears a nice button down or polo shirt with khaki’s. Don’t worry I have a whole wardrobe guide coming your way once you book your session.

We are all a little camera shy, is that okay?

Absolutely. It can daunting to get in front of a camera without knowing anything about posing or what you’re suppose to do. This is exactly why we connect shortly after you book a session, even if you’ve done 10 sessions in the past with me. I help you with every step of the process from wardrobe to posing.
