6 Ways to Prep for a Boudoir Session

Here’s the thing, you definitely don’t want to come to your session without at least some preparation, but don’t get caught up in feeling like you have to have everything perfect. You are going to have SO much fun regardless! I have put together the top 6 ways to prep for your boudoir session. No matter what you do, RELAX and enjoy the prep. Get excited! This experience is going to be awesome, and remember YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL already!

  1. You may want to get your nails done. There will be photos that will feature your hands and your finger nails. If it will stick out to you if you have nails that are not manicured, I’d suggest getting them done. You don’t want such a little thing to ruin a photo for you. We recommend either colorless polish or french because it goes with everything. If you are more apt to do them yourself, then go for it girl! Just groom them at home before your shoot.
  2. Make sure you exfoliate and moisturize your skin. Definitely shave or wax in ALL the places, if you know what I mean. But if you wax don’t do it the day before in case you get red or blotchy. We recommend Medesthetics and Spa180 if you are looking for places to pamper your skin!
  3. Drink lots of water. I know you’re wondering, “Haley….what does drinking water have to do with my Boudoir shoot?!” But there are a lot of benefits to drinking water! The most important would be helping to flush any water weight or specifically swelling out of your system, while also helping make your skin look amazing!!!!
  4. Get your hair trimmed or color touched up at least 1 week before your session. If you don’t color your hair, you can also add “shades” or a toner to your hair that is one shade lighter than your natural color to add some shine!
  5. Make sure if you get a spray tan to get it at least 2 or 3 days before your shoot. If you have tan lines they are almost impossible to eliminate during post processing. So, getting a customary spray tan will definitely help. We highly recommend Tanology in Auburn! They are amazing and will do an excellent job! Their instagram tag is @tanologyau.
  6. The day of your shoot don’t wear tight fitting clothes or undergarments. You will want to wear a loose fitting shirt with sweat pants with no undergarments at all. Trust me!!! You do not want red lines on your skin in your photos. It is extremely hard to take those away during post processing, and it is much easier to just avoid it all together.
